Does anyone use facebook with JAWS? I signed up to it last night, but having trouble clicking on the button that says add as a friend. Any ideas?
Thank you.

hey I use it and that button can be a jerk at times. Sometimes I need to route Jaws to PC and do it that way. Let me know if you get it working for you.

Post 4 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 5:16:04

I asked on a mailing list I'm on and they said go to m.facebook.com, whic I tried and it's really good. It's kind of like an accessible part of the site I guess.

Post 5 by Texas Shawn (The cute, cuddley, little furr ball) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 9:04:19

I like fb a hell of a lot better than myspace.

Don't have all those problems with the capcha

Post 6 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 12:19:20

m.facebook.com is a mobile facebook, used for cell phones. never had that problem with the buttons, just press b, and it moved me right to it.

Post 7 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 12:25:20

wow just tryed the mobile version and it works great. cool will start using it.

Post 8 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 17:36:31

It's much easier to use than the normal one. I thought it was some sort of accessible one. Most of the people round college only like the normal version and don't really see the point of it. Oh well ... I like it.

Post 9 by skittles_freak (the freak of skittles) on Tuesday, 10-Feb-2009 2:23:03

oy people, the aplications work fine, and so does the site! I guess You guys are to lazy to try it,
Sorry, but I'm getting sick of seeing people write mobile notes using the mobile site. I can understand if you have a cell phone, but yeah. You have to be patient with it.

For those of you that use facebook often, which is your fave screen reader to use along with it?

Post 11 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Wednesday, 11-Feb-2009 13:11:05

Anyonehad issues with Facebook and writing posts, when I try to go to the post section and type something either nothing comes through in the Edit field or Jaws doesn't see it, I tried insert-z to pass keys straight through, but guess that does not work with the Edit fields. I have no such problems with comment fields but am having a b*tch of a time with the posts, got to try the Mobile version of the site though to see if that fixes my problem.

Post 12 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 13-Feb-2009 14:54:35

I use JAWS for everything.

Post 13 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Sunday, 15-Feb-2009 9:07:20

I use JAWs, and I've found a whole bunch of people from high school, who i have not seen in ages. I've got at least twenty0nine friends, and it's still going up ...

Post 14 by SFAIdol (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Sunday, 15-Feb-2009 17:14:33

I, too, use JAWS for everything and have as well been re-connected with friends I use to go to school with that I hadn't talked with since graduation. When I first got it last year, I also couldn't figure out why it wouldn't add someone as a friend, but three weeks laster, JAWS randomly took me to it, asking for sure if I wanted to add a certain person. I figured out that it was loading on the bottom of the page. (Now, it loads after the advertisements). . I just hit Enter on that part, and it asks me if I'm sure I want to ad this person, and I click add. I haven't had trouble with writing posts. If I write a oot, JAWS won't read it all, but it gets posted, I make sure of that.

Post 15 by Polka dots and Moonbeams (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Sunday, 15-Feb-2009 18:52:21

Does anyone use the ILike ap? Just recently, I'm having trouble adding a song to my list. Not a playlist, just the ILike list. If that makes sense...smile!

Post 16 by saiyan4414 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Friday, 06-Mar-2009 0:40:32

I use Jaws as well and it works fine for me, and I sometimes use the I LIKE AP.

Post 17 by Braille Reader (Generic Zoner) on Friday, 06-Mar-2009 2:09:40

I'm a great fan of FB. It was a little confusing to use the regular site at first, but I've gotten used to it. I use the mobile FB as well, and I like it except for the fact that the applications I have on the regular site don't show up on the mobile site. Does anyone know how I can get around that? If I can, I'd much rather use the mobile version, but I haven't been able to as much because I'd like to see the different applications I have other than the notes or the photos applications.

What do you think about the new home page? It just seems like they changed it so soon after the last one.

How do you get to the I Like ap? and yeah I hate the new home page too. Has anybody seen that new ap floating around that supposedly gets you the old home page back, and if so how do you get it to work? I couldn't figure it out.

Post 22 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Wednesday, 18-Mar-2009 20:38:51

speaking of I Like, how do I add more of my favorite artists.

Post 23 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Wednesday, 18-Mar-2009 21:35:55

Hey again dez. I actualy like the new facebook style. I am back to just jumping by headings, and you don't have to add everything if you don't want too. For instance, I told it to only show me stuff about my friends, minus videos, and photos.

Post 24 by Polka dots and Moonbeams (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Wednesday, 18-Mar-2009 23:34:10

Wow, that was a challeng! I was just playing around on facebook, because I've noticed songs hadn't been added to my music ILike area.

Well, now I have been successful...sort of. Not sure what I did to be successful. I used my keyboard to select the add under the song title also the ilike above the song title. Not sure which one did it.

Wooh-Hooh! Ok, I think I've got it now. You click the ilike above the song title. It seems that simple. Towards the bottom of the page you'll see the option to add the song to a playlist, make a comment, and send the song to a friend.

I'm going to try some of this bookmarking that facebook recommends. Maybe I can quicly get to my ilike page then.

Does anyone chat on facebook? Lol, this is how window eyes reads that area:
you are online
go offline
you are offline
go online
How confusing!

I'm using an older version of wineyes, so I'm guessing this is the problem. lol

facebook is a great sight! I've had an account for over a year. Very accessible

Post 26 by robbiec12345 (Good night and Farewell ) on Sunday, 05-Apr-2009 11:01:32

facebook is shit!!!! i created an account and hardly ever use it. yes, the mobile site is great but u can't really do much with it. the full version doesn't really work because half of the links and buttons won't show up on my braillenote and i don't have access to a computer. it uses too much java script which i think is what is causing the problems. also, it keeps popping up captchas and saying that my account hasn't been verified when it has. so i've given up with facebook. i also can't use myspace, bebo or twitter because they all have captchas and twitter won't even load on my braillenote. i guess social networking is just not for blind people anymore *cries*

Post 27 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 05-Apr-2009 20:47:53

No, its for blind people, but its not for braille Notes. Yay for BP's and icons!

I'm writing this on my Braille Plus, and find Facebook easier to use on this than the pc.

How can you filter things out of the newsfeed? Someone mentioned that they made it so photos and videos don't show up. Where do you go to make those changes? I'm using Jaws 10, and haven't found a way to do that.

Post 30 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Monday, 06-Apr-2009 11:19:41

I found it at the top, right before your newsfeed stories begin.

While i was looking, I did find where my notifications went. They decided to barry it among addvertizementsafter all the status updates.

I've got the filtering working now. The new layout really isn't that bad. I liked it all along, but now that I've got the filtering working, it's even better. The cool thing is, that you can drag and drop the filters, so that they are in the order you want them. I made a friends list, and I made that my dfault view instead of the newsfeed, but if I want to see the full newsfeed, all I have to do is hit enter on it, and there it is. It's actually a really cool way to use facebook.

Post 38 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Wednesday, 08-Apr-2009 16:33:28

can you give me some instruction on how to drag and drop?

Post 39 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Wednesday, 08-Apr-2009 20:28:50

There's a blog about accessibility that you can read at
http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=71852922130.
I even commented.

Post 40 by Rowdyamerican (Veteran Zoner) on Thursday, 09-Apr-2009 10:32:25

To drag and drop, go into the jaws cursor, find the filter you want to move, then press control-insert-slash. Remember, you want to use the slash on the numpad, which is the left-mouse button. After doing that, you use the jaws cursor to find where you want to drag and drop the item to, then press control-insert-slash, to actually drag and drop the item. For example, say I wanted to move the ping.fm application filter so that it is above the photos filter, I would go into the jaws cursor, route it to the virtual cusor, find ping.fm, hit control-insert-slash, then I would look for photos, and when I found it with my Jaws cursor, I would hit control-insert-slash again, to complete the drag and drop. I know it sounds a little confusing, but once you've actually done it a few times, it's pretty easy.

Hmm, good to hear thast I'm not the only blind person that likes facebook, I've been using it for a really long time, almost 2 years I think, and I've had a few problems with it, but you guys really would have had problems when it was first made public, it was NOT accessible at all, it was horrible, and very hard to use.

I have JAWS 10.5 and zoomtext 9, it really depends on my mood and how my eyes are on any given day, for which screenreader I use, normally its JAWS, (well since Shark put the new one on here) before that i had JAWS 8 and was completely used to it and facebook, I've many times just tabbed my way through the pages, but now there is no need for that, and I find the internet much easier to navigate using FIREFOX and JAWS 10 together, I rarely use Internet Explorer, I hate it.

The new Facebook, is actually easier than the old one, there is better filtering options, and if you go into you account settings there is a lot more Security and privecy options there than ever before, you can do so much in that area, and I highly recommend that you go in there and explore it and learn about all the options, there is extensive help available in the help section and it also has a email link that you can email for more help if you need it.

Post 42 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Thursday, 09-Apr-2009 19:08:11

The main thing I don't like about the new Facebook is that if I have group invitations or friend requests, they're almost at the bottom of the page, and I have to wade through advertisements, people's status unpdates, and everything else to get to them. Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to have that on the top of the page, because I wouldn't have the patience to look on the bottom, because you'd think less important things would be displayed as you go farther down the page. Oh well, there's always the mobile site for that, but I always find myself missing friend requests when I use the regular site.

Post 43 by SFAIdol (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Thursday, 09-Apr-2009 19:45:16

When they changed the layout a few weeks ago, friend requests and group invitations were on the top of the page before the status updates, which I liked, but it was only that way for about a week. Now, they're back to the bottom like before, although I don't know if it was ever on the top on anyone else's.

Post 44 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Thursday, 09-Apr-2009 20:13:44

The only newsfeed filters I can find are the ones on individual profiles.

Post 45 by motifated (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 09-Apr-2009 21:51:06

An option mijht be to use the windows fin command if you are looking for specific text.

Lou

Post 46 by Rowdyamerican (Veteran Zoner) on Thursday, 09-Apr-2009 22:16:16

You can always use your screen reader's find command to search for requests. I do that, and I also use the find command to look for highlights.

Earle

Post 47 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Thursday, 09-Apr-2009 23:31:38

wierd, because all of my notifications are still at the top of the page.

Post 48 by BigDogDaddy (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Friday, 10-Apr-2009 9:17:31

Also, you can try pressing a shift h for previous heading when you first log in which should take you to the last heading at the bottom of the page if you're using jaws. I typically use this to get to info that is probably at the bottom of everything. Also, pressing the letter b in jaws moves you through the buttons so you can quickly explore and see if there are any confirm buttons on the main page when you first log in.

Post 49 by buschic (Account disabled) on Saturday, 11-Apr-2009 0:07:53

yeah, Earle, I do that too, shark told me about the find command in jaws while using the internet.

I signed up for an account a couple weeks ago, but I was never able to use the accessible site. Every time I go to m.facebook.com it gives me a, cannot display the webpage message. Any suggestions?

Post 51 by Juliet (move over school!) on Sunday, 19-Apr-2009 10:36:50

I love facebook as well, and find the chat feature to be farely accessible; not quite like irc, but it's doable. It won't read your messages back to you orr a lot of times anounce if you've gone out of forms mode, so you sometimes have to have patience with it, it can be workable.
The only thing I don't really like about it, is that you can only hold one conversation at a time, because Jaws will only read one window at at a time, so you have to pick and choose what you want to do. Aside from that, I haven't had that much of a problem with it, I just miss what the old facebook used to be like before they made the last 2 or 3 changes to the homepage, an now a lot of the buttons seem to be hard to click on, and a lot of things seem to be harder to navigate to.
Perfect example, if I want to write on someone else's wall after they've written me, I'll click the link below the post they wrote on my wall, but I don't see any option to write anything like before when it used to just be write out in the open.

Are you using Internet Explorer 6? I think it only works with 7 and Firefox. I used to have this problem where it downloaded a file.

Post 54 by Mlynwei (Last word? Gimmie the first!) on Wednesday, 29-Apr-2009 13:27:14

I'm actually using IE8. With 7 it just gave me a Cannot Display webpage message, with 8 it wants me to download something.
